Bananas are for Squishing

Thursday, January 26th, 2006

We are enjoying the world of table foods. Garrett is having a good time feeding himself. He does great with dry foods like Cheerios, Waffles, Gerber puffs and Wagon Wheels. But he does not like to touch squishy foods like bananas or canned veggies or fruits. He likes to take the bananas and squeeze them in his little hand and make it come out between his fingers. He will eat them if I feed them to him with a spoon. This morning he ate a baby food free breakfast. He had pancakes and ½ of a fruit cup with pears and peaches. Yummy!

Garrett is still happy with crawling. He can move very quickly and is pulling up on everything. He learned how to climb up the stairs last week. He has no desire to go back down just up. He will be playing downstairs and goes to the stairs then he crawls to his room or to his toys and starts playing. He knows what he wants, smart boy.

We were very excited to have Branden come home after his long trip to California. He took time off last week so we got spoiled again. Then he left on Monday for a quick trip to St. Paul where it was evidently very cold. He came home last night and left this morning for a meeting in Arkansas and will fly home this evening. He is ready to spend time away from the airport.

James is moving out this weekend. We will miss him. I have not told Bonzai that he won’t be sleeping here anymore. Bonzai adopted James and has missed him since he has been traveling.

Garrett and I enrolled in a KinderMusik class that will start next week. It is a class that incorporates music with learning. I am looking forward to it. www.kindermusik.com

I am having surgery on my wrist on March 27. I went for a second opinion and he said that I have tried all of the conservative methods and surgery is the only option. The surgery has a 100% cure rate. So, once it is done I won’t have to deal with it anymore. I will have a soft bandage and sutures for 10 days. It won’t be that bad, I will not have a hard cast so that helps. My mother is going to come and stay with us the week of the surgery and we are VERY happy about that. She is going to spoil us all.

Time to get ready for playgroup!

6 days down 4 days to go

Branden left us last Tuesday for his conference in California. He will return this Friday. This is the longest that he has been away from us, 10 days. I know that we are ready for him to come back and I’m sure he is ready to sleep in his own bed. Garrett has new tricks to show him.

Garrett is trying to say “Hi”. He opens his mouth and says “Haaaai”. Sometimes he gets out a very clear, “hi”. He has such a sweet little voice, I love it! He said it to Abigail first on Saturday. Then he started doing it more. He is also standing on his own a lot more. He still is happy with crawling for now. I think he will be a lot happier when he starts walking. But for now he is staying on the floor.

We have been staying busy while Branden has been gone. We have attended our Mom’s group play dates. In fact we are hosting the play date this week. I thought it would be a good time while Branden and James were traveling. We went to Tia and Uncle’s house on Saturday and played with Abigail and Sydney. Garrett had a great time playing outside with Abigail and riding in her wagon up and down the driveway and street. He said his new word to Nono, of course. On Sunday we went to Branden’s parent’s house and went to the park and had fun on the swings. He had a good time playing with Mimi and Papa.

This morning we went to see his doctor. He has a bump on his neck that has increased in size and changed shape. His doctor looked at it on his 9 month appointment and told me to bring him back in if it changed. But it is just a lymph node. She said that it is normal for kids to get them; it just means that the lymph nodes are doing their job. He also got his 2nd flu shot while we were there. He only cried for a minute, but was very surprised that the nurse would do such a thing to him.

We are going to take a walk and enjoy the unseasonable weather. Give us a call; we would love to talk to you!!

Happy New Year!!

Monday, January 2nd, 2006

We had a great weekend.

First we went to my sister’s birthday party. She is 30!! Crazy! We had a small gathering at our house for New Year’s Eve, which was nice. Then we attended Nono and Pop’s annual New Year’s Day party.

We had a fun time while Branden was on vacation this past week. We are going to miss him this week. He leaves tomorrow for 10 days. Yuck! Oh well, not much we can do about it.

Branden gave Garrett a lime a few days ago. He did not like it at first but then he kept putting it in his mouth. Silly boy. He got another tooth that makes 5 for those who are counting. It is the on top and the one on the other side will be here soon.

Today is Garrett’s 10 month birthday!! I need to start planning his party!

New pictures are up!
